| Richard Shain Cohen, as the lecturer at the Maine Chapter of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers of which he was a member. The talk was based upon his novel, BE STILL, MY SOUL, about World War II espionage in Palestine, Germany, the European and North African Theaters and the U.S. homefront. He spoke of the importance of intelligence in the winning of the war. The discussion then followed some history of Palestine during the 19th and 20th centuries and followed to the present and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Some of the material Cohen used came through contact with the Israeli government.
Cohen is a veteran of World War II, Medical Cops, assigned to home-based laboratory in lieu of being sent overseas following the government's new restriction (see the film "Saving Private Ryan") against sending all sons of a single family into battle simultaneously. He was a Department Chair of English, Dean of Liberal Arts, Director of Planning and Research, Assistant Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Vice-President of Academic Affairs. Now Professor Emeritus, University of Maine, Presque Isle. He was a member of National and the New England Chapters of AFIO, and was a founding member of the Maine Chapter. He remains a member of the Maine Association of Former Intelligence Officers. Cohen lives in Maine with his wife and Kiki the cat. |
